WHAT WE DO: Food Security & Food Sovereignty

Workshops:

1. Community Building for Food Security (CBFS) - in partnership with Alberta Food Matters which now operates the Growing Food Security in Alberta Network

The Community Building for Food Security workshop (CBFS) uses a participatory approach to facilitate community asset mapping, capacity building and action planning for food security in Alberta communities. The workshops use the insights and experiences of the CAPC/CPNP National Project Fund titled ‘Building Capacity for Food Security through Mentoring’ and the “Thought About Food? A Workbook on Food Security and Influencing Policy” tools, processes, action planning guidelines, and DVD. The workshop demonstrates ways to use community development approaches including community capacity building, asset mapping and the Tosterud CAFÉ approach for food security actions.

2. New workshop – S.E.L.R.S. Community Food Intensive (Sustainable Equitable Local Regenerative System for food) - Making it happen!  - “Planning for Food as if People mattered!” – in partnership with Alberta Food Matters which now operates the Growing Food Security in Alberta Network

This workshop uses the S.E.L.R.S. lens and a values-based food approach to assist the participants in creating a local/regional action plan.

The workshop is place-based and grounded in the Community Building for Food Security workshop principles of asset based community building, RAFF and participatory approaches.
