Community Building and Community Development with an asset focus is the business of Community Building Resources (CBR) located in the Spruce Grove and Devon area of Alberta, Canada

What We Do
We love what we do!  Over the last 15 years CBR has become a resource, connector, facilitator, coach and mentor for community groups, neighbourhoods and organizations across Canada and beyond. CBR provides guidance to all sorts of groups resulting in:

Community Model

In 1994 CBR, formerly the Community Development Office of the Capital Health Region in Edmonton, Alberta conducted a pilot project in Asset-based Community Building (ABCB) and Asset-based Community Development (ABCD), talking and asset mapping with the Glenwood Community League in the Summer and Fall of 1994. 

Steps to Capacity Sucess

This way, or path, emphasizes the positive - community strengths and capacities - and stimulates the development of a connected, animated and activated community, increased business opportunities, and readily available local supports for community citizen

Asset Maps and Asset Mapping

An asset map is a pictorial representation of the and resources, assets and 'gifts' discovered in and around the community during the the Community Capacity Building and Asset Mapping © process (CCBAM) and shows the relationship that have been built between and among groups and people

RAFF

In 1995 CBR developed a model or path for Community Capacity Building and Asset Mapping© which includes the Steps to Capacity Success© and is the philosophical foundation for what CBR does.

Workshops & Facilitation

We support and assist communities through energizing and fun workshops, providing coaching and mentoring and by sharing various resources, expertise and connections.

Food Security & Food Sovereignty

Community Building for Food Security (CBFS) - in partnership with Growing Food Security in Alberta.

The Community Building for Food Security workshop (CBFS) uses a participatory approach to facilitate community asset mapping, capacity building and action planning for food security in Alberta communities.

Based out of Alberta, the CBR team has creative energy that has had far-reaching effects.  With daily emails inquiries from around the globe, CBR is always learning and sharing new ideas and practices with others.
